Biography:


Richard N. Tannenbaum is a 1973 graduate of George Washington University, majoring in Sociology. He received his J.D. from Ohio Northern University Law School in 1976, and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1977. Mr. Tannenbaum also is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Following his admission to the Bar in 1977 and through 1983, Mr. Tannenbaum devoted himself to the practice of matrimonial and family law. During this time, Mr. Tannenbaum also served as a Law Guardian for the Family Court, Nassau County and an Arbitrator for the Civil Court, Queens County. In 1980, Mr. Tannenbaum was a Democratic Candidate for the New York State Senate, 7th S.D. From 1984 through 1989, Mr. Tannenbaum's areas of practice also included commercial litigation, real estate matters, bankruptcy and other general civil practice areas. In 1990, Mr. Tannenbaum founded his own firm which limited its practice to matrimonial and family law. In 1997, Mr. Tannenbaum became a Senior Associate at the matrimonial firm of Raoul Lionel Felder, P.C., located in New York, New York. Mr. Tannenbaum became an associate of the firm's founding member, Stephen Gassman, in January 2003 and on August 1, 2007, he became a member of the firm which is now known as Gassman, Baiamonte, Betts & Tannenbaum, P.C.

Among other professional accomplishments, Mr. Tannenbaum has served as a member of the faculty at Hofstra University College for Continuing Education, a lecturer for the Nassau County Bar Association, Family Law for Public Awareness, as well as a visiting lecturer at the University of Iceland Law School in Reykjavik, Iceland. In 2004, Mr. Tannenbaum was appointed a Referee by the Nassau County Supreme Court in several complex equitable distribution cases.

Among other professional associations, Mr. Tannenbaum is a member of the Matrimonial Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association, the National Crime Victim Bar Association in Virginia and the Coalition of Victim Attorneys and Consultants (COVAC) for the National Victim Center in Virginia. He also has been a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, New York County Lawyers Association and the Great Neck Lawyers Association, where he served both as President and Chairman of the Board. A composer and pianist, Mr. Tannenbaum is an active member of the Songwriters Guild of America.

Mr. Tannenbaum has the distinction of being a recipient of the Outstanding Defender of Victims Award, Crime Victims Political Platform, as well as being listed in Who's Who in American Law: 2000 - 2001 Millennium Edition and in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. Since 1984, Mr. Tannenbaum has been rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating, the highest rating of integrity and competence among attorneys.

Since 2008, Mr. Tannenbaum has been a volunteer for Musicians On Call, an organization which brings live music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities who are too ill to leave their beds. He plays the piano for children at Sloan-Kettering Pediatrics and has appeared numerous times on Mt. Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital's KidZone TV, a live, closed-circuit interactive studio, where he entertains the patients with a rendition of "Name That Tune".
